I'd say something like 6 chapters would be helpful.  There are already some breaks in the narrative.

six would be too much IMO, If I were to split it up, it would only be in two parts, first part oviposition and the second being the laying

I just had a flash of inspiration, and I'm hoping to write a short little thingie for this contest before the deadline.  Can't promise, though.

As for the chapter thing, it's just my opinion.  I prefer using chapters that are somewhat on the short side.

I've been really busy with this course I'm TAing, but it ends this weekend.  With luck, I'll get an entry posted Monday.

I'm still working on it, I just haven't gotten much work in.  It should be progressing faster now that some real-life distractions are out of the way.  Give me another week, how 'bout?

The status is that I hope to finish it any day now, but life keeps getting in the way.  I hate to hold the contest up like this, but I really haven't had much free time to work on it.

Maybe give me one more week to complete it?  If it's not done and posted by then, Anime Lover wins by default.
