Title: A story idea...
Post by: Roolbar on February 19, 2009, 11:23:39 AM
I'm going to stop lurking for brief moment to share a thought I had. I can't write worth beans, but I'll feel better having gotten the idea out, even if nobody acts on it.

Anyone here watch Gargoyles? Good show. Their creator is known to answer any question the fans ask of him, and there's extensive notes on gargoyle biology. One of which is that they don't defecate; instead, their body's toxins leech out when they turn to stone, to be shed in the morning.

Slightly icky when you think about it.

But anyway. In one episode, Demona is cursed by Puck to turn human when the sun rises, instead of turning to stone. Presumably, when this happens, she'd have to purge her toxins the old-fashioned way, something she may or may not have any concept of.

I think somebody here might be able to spin that into a short story. ;)

*re-lurk*

Wow, that's...actually an AWESOME idea, now that you mention it. It would be great if anyone would take that up; I'm sure we have a few fans of Gargoyles around here. If nobody else does it, I might take a crack at this story when I don't have anything else to do.

Also, it's cool that even if you're not great at writing, you still found a way to contribute to the site. Good Jorb! *thumbs up*

I guess it could be kinda interesting. Frankly there's just something about some toon characters that keeps me from imagining them in these kind of situations. But this isn't too bad, shame any attempt at an artwork based on it would likely fail (well, maybe not as badly as simpsons porn...*Shudders* :006:)

But I do have faith in Toasty, he certainly knows how to get the job done.  If he could realize the long prophesied Peach fic, then this could become a reality and not a nightmare.

DUDE. I recently re-watched Gargoyles, and I can't believe I didn't think of that.

Orpheum: Why do you say artwork based on this would fail?

Two words: Simpsons Porn.

Extended reason: Most western influenced porn sucks. Granted, if someone could find a balance that didn't make the character look hideous and the pooping look natural and not like it was poorly implement (and I've seen some crappy *pun unintended* of western characters pooping).

I'm not sure exactly what you're referring to, probably for the better...but in general, I think I agree with you.

Is it the western style of art that you're talking about though, or the characters themselves? Or just that the artists doing porn of western characters suck?

Well, it seems like there are fewer talented western porn artists, probably because the idea of drawing porn is more firmly cemented in the east than in the west. On the other hand, I can see what Orpheum is saying about the proportions. In general, western animation characters have much more "cartoonlike" proportions, which can end up making porn of them just look weird. However, a show like Gargoyles with a fairly realistic art style shouldn't really have that problem, so maybe Orpheum is referring to something else.

Just my two cents.

Using "Simpsons" porn to try to prove your point, Orpheum, wasn't a really good idea.  xD

Simpsons animation is *quite* different than that used in Gargoyles, which has a more realistic approach toward drawing than the Simpsons which are nothing more, really, than caricatures.

That being said, however, most Western "artwork" does tend to suck - not least because of hack artists like JAB.  <_<;

I'd always wanted someone to draw Princess Lana in a (pee) desperation situation - someone with good skills, but all I get is shitty JAB stuff.  Definitely not attractive in *any* sense of the word.  >_<'

As for the story idea posted, while Demona does have *some* attractiveness (and putting aside the poop bias), I, myself, would love it if someone did something with Alisa (sp?) Maza...  (the woman who basically named all the "starring" Gargoyles, lol).

This is slightly off topic, but I really want there to be more Western-style toon pics. I have tried repeatedly to draw them myself, and they've almost always failed. I'm never able to get the proportions right, personally. I'm always scanning WWOEC for such drawings, and they seem to almost never surface. Surely SOMEONE is drawing this stuff.

That said, what I want to see is the stuff that leans toward the post-Powerpuff Girls, extremely simplified and geometric art style. I'm also not one for Simpsons porn, and really I don't care much for Family Guy style either.

Do you mean more like American Dad? Like a little cartoony, but not totally exaggerated?

I read a Princess Lana desperation fic somewhere, but now I don't remember where.  Do you know anything about that?

No, I'm thinking more like Foster's Home, Fairly Odd Parents, even Total Drama Island to some extent--the flat, super-stylized look that you see in a lot of original Cartoon Network and Nickelodeon shows. Which I guess would be considered REALLY exaggerated.

No, I sure don't.  O_o;

I mean, part of my Zelda, Princess of Desperation fic had a "cameo" of Princess Lana, but that's about all I've ever read of such a thing.

I tell ya... if I could actually find "good" hentai/porn of her, I'd be willing and able to write stories about her.  Captain N 4EVER!  :P

No, this had Lana and Zelda chained up in a dungeon for a really long time, and eventually both had to wet themselves.  I don't really remember the plot surrounding the dungeon scene, but I remember it was pretty stupid.

And yeah, Captain N is underrated.  I loved it when it was on T.V., and it's the only cartoon I've ever bought on D.V.D.  I can't really see the girls in it as attractive, though.

It's possible that I may have written a longer one a long time ago, but I doubt it - the idea seems familiar enough, certainly.

And I still love Lana and the Mario show's Zelda better.  =P

Getting back to the original topic, I just looked up the Gargoyles show and Demona was voiced by Counselor Troi from Star Trek!  :o

Oh please... that's nothing - Xanatos was voiced by "Commander Riker" and one of the Gargoyles (can't think of his name - he's part machine and has like three personalities in him) was voiced by Worf   =P

Ahem, Michael Dorm, he played Coldstone*Othello* (can't remember who played Coldsteel*Iago* and Coldfire*Desdemona*). Don't forget he was also Weasel from "I am Weasel!"
Puck (and Owen if I'm not mistaken) was voiced by Brent Spinner as well. Hell, 95% of the cast was from Star Trek at one point or another. I think the only Trekkies who weren't on the show were the ones from the first series, but almost everyone from Next Generation was on.

*ahem*  That's Michael DORN, not Dorm.  =P   And you're right... the Gargoyle's name was ColdStone - the original personality embedded in the triple personality that was formed when Xanatos brought him back to life (or was it Demona?)   And yes. Dorn also played on "I M Weasel"... though everyone knows the *real* star was I R Baboon  xD

Owen *is* Puck in the series, but I wasn't aware that he was played by Brent Spiner.  O_o;   I just knew that Xanatos was William Frakes and Demona was Marina Sirtis in addition to Coldstone being Michael Dorn.  O.o

Funny how that worked out, huh?  :P  All the "villians" were Star Trek: TNG cast members and, indeed, Patrick Stewart himself became a decent voice actor later on too (he plays on American Dad).   Nice to see the Trekkie cast has done well for themselves after TNG ended, eh?  :P

I knew Puck was Owen, but I couldn't remeber if he was the same actor as well. Let's not forget, Michael Bell was a cast member too, and he played Raziel in the Legacy of Kain. And while not a Trekkie regular, he was one of the main characters in the pilor of NG if I'm not mistaken >Never really had a chance to see the whole series<

According to Wikipedia, Owen wasn't played by Brent Spiner, but Puck was.  Owen was played by: Jeff Bennett

I see what you mean about Michael Bell, but other than his first appearance as Grappler  Zorn, I can't recall him *ever* showing up again, meaning that he was a one-time guest star of sorts...   ???

Which of course featured Rene Auberjonois who played Odo. He was also Janos Audren in the Kain series.
